Thanksgiving Vibes- Faith on Tables
There are times and seasons when the world seems hushed,
Like those sleepy mornings when the lights fall just low enough,
The covers warm enough to leech away all desire
This season feels like that. Turkey Day. Thanksgiving.
To even stir, to bother our limp limbs,
To smash the snooze,
So we can snuffle into our little snore again.
Like just after we sit after eating entirely too much pie.
Those misty-eyed moments when fabric feels like honey,
Half-sweet with a hint of lemon,
The scent of family, of friends, of the good things life and Love afford.
Forever Snapshots held in the souls architecture
Today the world feels hushed again, poised, a storm un-storming yet hopeful
With hand raised, holding a gavel of judgment, or perhaps a silly downpour,
But withholding — just for a season — for Thanksgiving and turkey haze.
That we might have safe travels and pleasant views of Sun alight and bright
A coming day flavored like gratitude: cranberry-bright,
Pumpkin-spiced, cherry-warm and sugared, apple-crisp,
Hams and birds baked and sealed in oven heat, presented with pride.
As we prepare our hearts for the softening of true grace given as love shared.
A feast for souls, as we are the ones who receive,
Who give presence and breath in return,
Sharing communal grace freely given.
As we receive and give as given and even as not received in hope of love.
We dream now of these two days until the dry birds we swear are juicy,
Of stuffing hoarded, of mounds of mashed potatoes,
Of rolls buttered and steaming on platters around gravy boats always too small.
Anticipating the hugs, the awkward fake, sincere smiles and happy well wishes
Elbows are thrown in good-natured cheer as chatter erupts and smiles soften,
Season’s greetings and gratitude flow between the living and the ones to come,
And we thank the Lord for the gifts of the coming year — and for family.
And the Coming the coming of the Coming One. Amen. Thank You Lord Yeshua.
